Entrevista Exclusiva com Ina Forsman

Sabe quando voce se encontra entre o sol e a chuva, a sanidade e os devaneio e precisa urgentemente de uma corda para te puxar do buraco em que se encontra? A voz unica e marcante de Ina Forsman foi exatamente a corda que me acordou do meu pesadelo particular. Ter a oportunidade de falar, entrevistar e o mais importante: ouvir o que ela tem a dizer, foi o que me imulsionou em um momento muito obscuro da minha vida. Posso de coração dizer a ela que agora está tudo "All Good". Confira a entrevista com alguém que relmente pode arrepiar sua alma:
Primeiramente, obrigada pela oportunidade. É uma grande honra poder fazer uma entrevista com uma artista que eu admiro desde o primeiro momento em que ouvi suas músicas (tão intensa) no Spotify. Qual foi o momento da sua vida em que decidiu ser cantora profissional? E o que fez ser o jazz e o blues necessariamente impactantes pra que isso acontecesse?
Eu tinha 6 anos quando falei que queria ser cantora quando crescesse. Através da minha infância e adolescência eu pratiquei sozinha no meu quarto, cantando as canções pop da época. Quando fiz 16 anos, comecei a procurar músicas mais antigas, como Aretha Franklin e Etta James, e nunca mais voltei. Eu sou profundamente apaixonada por soulfull e acho que é melhor em Jazz, Blues e Soul. Este também é o tipo de música que eu quero criar, música que faz as pessoas sentirem.
Sua voz é única e assustadoramente extraordinária. Confesso que fiquei surpreendida com o tamanho do talento dentro de seu rostinho de anjo rsrsrs! As pessoas ainda se surpreendem quando você abre a boca e solta a voz?
Eu ouço isso às vezes das pessoas, como é que essa grande voz vem de uma mulher pequena. Eu costumo responder que na verdade não tem nada a ver com o tamanho do corpo, mas o que ajuda é um par de pulmões grandes e cordas vocais bem treinadas :)
Quais foram suas principais influências musicais no início de sua carreira, e quais são as influências agora?

Seu estilo de se vestir e usar seu cabelo é muito urbano e contemporâneo, o que você prefere mudar radicalmente? A cor ou estilo do cabelo?
Eu tentei muitos estilos e cores diferentes ao longo dos anos. Um dos meus looks favoritos é definitivamente a minha era "Marilyn Monroe" em 2016-17, quando eu usei um loiro curto que eu deixava enrolado a maior parte do tempo. Esse foi o look! Agora, pela primeira vez em mais de 10 anos, estou desenvolvendo meu cabelo naturalmente, e estou gostando muito do processo!
Você escreve suas músicas. Elas são sempre sobre experiências pessoais ou você também fala sobre diferentes assuntos e experiências de outras pessoas?
Eu sempre escrevo minhas músicas sobre minhas próprias experiências de vida, as boas e as ruins. Algumas músicas podem ser sobre um amigo ou um membro da família, mas ainda do meu ponto de vista.
Escolha uma música de cada um dos seus álbuns solos para representá-la nesse momento. Qual é o motivo da escolha?
Primeiro álbum: Pretty Messed Up. Essa música é a minha favorita do primeiro álbum. Curiosidade: Eu realmente queria nomear o álbum "Pretty Messed Up", mas minha gravadora achou que não era uma boa idéia, então eu decidi não nomear o álbum, ha!
É uma música de separação, então todas as partes das músicas não representam onde eu estou agora, mas minha mensagem ainda é a mesma: Eu posso estar um pouco confusa às vezes, mas nunca vou me desculpar por ser eu mesma!
Linha favorita: "Eu sei que você vai entender que vai levar algum tempo. Eu só tinha que fazer as coisas do meu jeito para que eu nunca me desculpe "
2º álbum: All Good. Minha favorita do segundo álbum. Eu estou em um lugar muito bom na vida agora, na vida pessoal, assim como na minha carreira. Eu tenho grandes planos para o futuro e às vezes fico frustrada quando sinto que as coisas não estão se movendo rápido o suficiente. Essa música sempre me ajuda a colocar meus pés de novo no chão e me lembro de ser grata por tudo que já tenho.
Linha favorita: "Não tenho dinheiro, acho que ainda sou um pouco pobre, mas me sinto mais rica do que nunca "
Seu álbum de estréia solo auto-intitulado foi um enorme sucesso no Spotify, transformando-se em tema novela no Brasil (Now You Want Me Back - Pega Pega 2018), você esperava toda essa repercussão?
Foi tão louco quando eu descobri sobre isso! Eu estava me perguntando por que havia tantos comentários brasileiros na minha página do youtube. Então, mais tarde, um entrevistador perguntou sobre estar tocando minha música na novela brasileira e eu ficava tipo "Como? Serio? Em uma novela?". É uma loucura como um acontecimento como esse pode abrir uma nova conexão com um país que eu nunca achei que alguém iria ouvir minha música! Agora estamos trabalhando em uma turnê no Brasil, esperamos para 2020!
Sem mencionar a grandeza das melodias e a maneira como você usa sua voz, como se você tivesse nascido para isso (o que é um grande fato). Conte-me tudo o que você sentiu quando escreveu e gravou Ina Forsman.

Durante a composição, eu passei pela minha primeira separação real depois de um longo relacionamento, então a maioria das músicas são reflexos dos meus verdadeiros sentimentos de todo esse processo. "No Room For Love" "Now You Want Me Back" "Pretty Messed Up" e "Devil May Dance Tonight" são canções onde eu canto sobre esse relacionamento e o final dele. A maioria das músicas, porém, eu escrevi algum tempo depois da separação, então eu já tive tempo de superar e tentar encontrar o amor de novo, ou pelo menos alguma companhia divertida. "Bubbly Kisses" "Before You Go Home" "Don`t Hurt Me Now" são a partir desse momento. Todos aqueles "Relacionamentos" acabaram indo mal rapidamente, o que foi ruim na época, mas ei, pelo menos eu consegui algumas boas músicas escritas!
Vamos falar sobre o seu novo, extraordinário, maravilhoso e totalmente salvador álbum, BEEN MEANING TO TELL YOU. Estou curiosa, por que a escolha do título? Qual é o conceito do seu álbum?

Eu escrevi "Been Meaning To Tell You" por três anos depois do meu primeiro álbum. O título é uma linha da música "All Good", mas eu não queria nomear o álbum "All Good", já que isso soaria muito feliz. Eu queria me desafiar enquanto escrevia as músicas. Eu queria escrever músicas sobre outra coisa a mais do que amor e relacionamentos, eu queria cavar um pouco mais. Eu escrevi duas músicas sobre o assédio sexual para as mulheres, "Whatcha Gonna Do" do ponto de vista dos homens, e "Why You Gotta Be The Way" das mulheres. Eu também escrevi uma música sobre violência doméstica "Miss Mistreated". Estas são algumas áreas que eu não ttinha ido antes com música, mas senti a necessidade de ir lá dessa vez. Falar sobre questões políticas na música é sempre um risco, já que a maioria dos ouvintes quer que eu entretenha não lecione ao ouvir música, mas eu senti que, para meu crescimento pessoal como artista e compositora, era necessário fazer isso. Claro que acabei escrevendo algumas canções de amor também, como "Genius", "Be My Home" e "Figure", e uma das minhas favoritas no álbum "Every Single Beat", que é minha Ode à música e performance.
All Good é seu primeiro single e carro-chefe do segundo álbum, e tanto a música quanto o vídeo nos trazem um sopro de paz e uma brisa fresca. Como foi a escolha do single e o conceito por trás do seu vídeo?
Eu tinha uma visão muito clara do videoclipe, queria que fosse em tons frios e positivo como a música. Eu também soube imediatamente que "All Good" seria o primeiro single quando eu escrevi a música. Eu queria "voltar aos negócios" com uma música positiva sobre auto-estima e apreciação. Eu senti que o mundo em que vivemos poderia usar uma música como essa agora.
Be My Home, Sunny, Figure e Who Hurt You Now chamaram minha atenção pela impressionante qualidade das letras (assim como todas no álbum), qual foi a sua motivação para escrevê-las? Qual é a história por trás?
"Be My Home" como a primeira linha diz "Eu gostaria de dadicaer esta canção para todos que eu amo". Eu queria escrever uma música para meus amigos e familiares que sempre têm meu suporte e aguentaram o peso de minhas costas e que sempre continuam me apoiando e me amando.
"Sunny" eu escrevi para a minha irmã Sani, Ela tinha 14 anos na época em que eu escrevi aquela música para ela. Eu mesmo gravei a primeira versão enquanto tocava ukulele e a enviei quando ela estava prestes a fazer sua primeira viagem sozinha para o Reino Unido como estudante de intercâmbio.
"Figure" é a minha música de amor mais honesta até hoje. Eu estava em um relacionamento muito difícil, e depois de uma das nossas lutas habituais eu escrevi a música em nossa sala quando ele estava no trabalho. Quando eu estava em Austin gravando o álbum, nós estamos tendo outra briga através de mensagens de texto quando eu estava cantando "Figure" na cabine de canto, você quase pode me ouvir chorar em algumas partes. Foi muito estressante então, mas agora eu acho um pouco engraçado como eu escrevi uma música sobre luta, e eu acabei lutando durante a gravação. O relacionamento era uma merda, mas me ensinou algumas lições muito valiosas sobre amor e relacionamentos.
"Who Hurt You" Eu escrevi para uma querida amiga minha que eu amo profundamente. Ela está lutando com traumas e vícios. É difícil ver alguém que você ama sofrer, mas o que é ainda mais difícil é ver essa pessoa tentando se curar com todas as coisas erradas, álcool, por exemplo. Você não pode consertar ninguém que não quer ser consertado, mas quando a auto-sabotagem deles está começando a afetar a vida de outras pessoas também, é hora de fazer alguma coisa. Eu escrevi essa música para ela como um lembrete amigável, que eu estarei aqui para ela, não importa o que aconteça, mas eu não posso salvá-la de si mesma. Ela me disse que ela odeia a música na verdade, sobre a qual nós duas rimos. Eu a entendo, quer dizer, você gostaria de uma música em que alguém lhe dissesse para "pegar sua merda juntos?" Ela está um pouco melhor hoje em dia, então se essa música a colocou na direção da cura mesmo que só um pouquinho, isso significa que valeu a pena.
Sunny a capella. O que posso dizer ou perguntar? Chegou à perfeição. Muito obrigada por isso e por ambos os álbuns. Eu fui apresentada a você através de um conhecido (Gabriel) numa época em que tudo estava desmoronando para mim. Você foi uma das razões junto com sua música para me dar força e continuar lutando. Eu só tenho que agradecer do fundo do meu coração.

Do you know when you find yourself between the sun and the rain, the sanity and the daydreams and you urgently need a rope to pull you from the hole you are in? Ina Forsman's unique and striking voice was exactly the chord that woke me up from my private nightmare. Having the opportunity to talk, interview and most importantly: listen to what she has to say, was what drove me when I was in a very dark moment of my life. I can heartily tell her that everything is now "All Good". Check out the interview with someone who can really shiver your soul:
First, thanks for the opportunity. It's a great honor to be able to do an interview with an artist I admire from the first moment I listened to your (so intense) songs on Spotify. When was the moment in your life when you decided to become a professional singer? And what made jazz and blues necessarily impactful to make it happen?
I was 6-years old when I first said that I want to become a singer when I grow up. Through my childhood and teenage years I practised alone in my room, singing to pop songs of that time. When I turned 16 I started to look out for more older music like Aretha Franklin and Etta James and never went back. I am deeply in love with soulfull music and I find it best in Jazz, Blues and Soul music. This is also the kind of music I want to create myself, music that makes people feel.
His voice is unique and frighteningly extraordinary. I confess that I was surprised by the size of the talent inside your face of angel lol! Are people still surprised when you open your mouth and drop your voice?
I hear it sometimes from people, that how is that big voice coming from a small woman. I usually answer that it actually has nothing to do with body`s size, but what helps is a pair of big lungs and well trained vocal cords :)
What were your main musical influences at the beginning of your career, and what are the influences now?
My biggest vocal influencers are Etta James, Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight, Donny Hathaway and Sam Cooke. Some more modern influencers are Beyoncé, Jazmine Sullivan and Amy Winehouse.

I have tried out many different styles and colors through out the years. One of my favourite looks is definitely my "Marilyn Monroe" era in 2016-17 when I rocked a short blonde bob that I would curl most of the time. That was a look! Right now for the first time in over 10 years, I`m growing my hair out naturally, and I`m enjoying the process very much!
You write your songs. Are they always about personal experiences or do you also talk about different subjects and other people's experiences?
I always write my songs about my own life experiences the good and the bad. Some songs might be about a friend, or a family member, but still from my point of view.
Choose a song from each of your solo albums to represent you right now. What is the reason for choosing?
1st album: Pretty Messed Up. This song is my favourite from the first album. Fun Fact: I actually wanted to name the album "Pretty Messed Up" but my record label thought it was not a good idea, so I decided not to name the album at all, ha!
It`s a break up song so all parts of the songs don`t represent where I am right now, but my message is still the same: I might be bit messed up sometimes, but I`ll never apologize for being myself!
Favourite line: "I know you will understand though it will take some time
I just had to do things my way for that I`ll never apologize"
2nd album: All Good. My favourite from the 2nd album. I`m in a very good place in life right now, in personal life as in my career.
I have big plans for the future and sometimes I get frustrated when I feel that things are not moving fast enough. This song always helps me to get my feet back on the ground and remember to be grateful for everything I already have.
Favourite line: "Ain`t got no money, guess I`m still kinda poor,
but I feel richer, than ever before"
Your self titled solo debut was a huge hit on Spotify, turning up to soap opera theme in Brazil (NYWMB), did you expect all this repercussion?
It was so crazy when I found out about it! I was wondering why there was so many Brazilian comments on my youtube page. Then later on an interviewer asked me how I got my song played on Brazilian Soap Opera and I was like "What? What Soap Opera". It`s crazy how a happening like that can open up a whole new connection to a country I never thought anyone would listen to my music! We are now working on a tour in Brazil, hopefully for 2020!

During the songwriting, I went through my first real break up after a long relationship, so most of the songs are reflections of my true feelings of that whole process. "No Room For Love" "Now You Want Me Back" "Pretty Messed Up" and "Devil May Dance Tonight" are songs where I sing about that relationship and the end of it. Most of the songs though, I wrote some time after the actual break up, so I already had time to get over and try to find love again, or at least some fun company. "Bubbly Kisses" "Before You Go Home" "Don`t Hurt Me Now" are from that time. All those "Relationships" turned out to go bad quickly as well, which felt bad at the time but hey, at least I got some good songs written!
Let's talk about your new, extraordinary, wonderful and totally lifesaving album, BEEN MEANING TO TELL YOU. I'm curious, why choose this title? What is the concept behind your album?

I wrote "Been Meaning To Tell You" for three years after my first album. Name is a line from the song "All Good", but I didn`t wanna name the album "All Good", since that would`ve sounded too happy. I wanted to challenge myself while writing the songs. I wanted to write songs about something else than love and relationships, I wanted to dig a little deeper. I wrote two songs about sexual harrassment towards women, "Whatcha Gonna Do" from mens point of view, and "Why You Gotta Be That Way" from womens. I also wrote a song about domestic violence "Miss Mistreated". These are some areas I haven`t gone before with music, but I felt the need to go there this time. Talking about political issues in music is always a risk, since most of the listeners want to me entertained not lectured when listening to music, but I felt that for my own personal growth as a performer and a songwriter, it was necessary to do that. Of course I ended up writing some love songs as well, like "Genius", "Be My Home" and "Figure", and one of my favourites on the album "Every Single Beat", that`s my Ode to music and performing.
All Good is their first single and flagship of the second album and both the music and the video bring us a breath of peace and fresh breeze. How was the choice of the single and the concept behind your video?
I had a very clear vision for the music video, I wanted it to be chill and positive like the song. I also knew right away that "All Good" is gonna be the 1st single when I wrote the song.
I wanted to "get back to business" with a positive song about self love and appreciation. I felt that the world we live in could use a song like that right now.

Be my home, Sunny, Figure and Who Hurt You Now caught my attention for the impressive quality of the lyrics (just like every album), What is your motivation for writing them? What is the story behind?
"Be My Home" like the first line says "I`d like to dadicate this song for the ones that I love". I wanted to write a song for my friends and family who always have my back and who always continue to support and love me.
"Sunny" I wrote for my sister Sani, She was 14 at the time when I wrote her that song. I recorded the first version myself while playing ukulele and sent it to her when she was about to take her first trip alone to UK as an exchange student.
"Figure" is my most honest love song to date. I was in a very difficult relationship, and after one of our usual fights I wrote the song in our livingroom when he was at work. When I was in Austin recording the album, we we`re having another fight via text messages when I was singing "Figure" in the singing booth, you can almost hear me cry on some parts. It was very stressfull then, but now I think it`s bit funny how I wrote a song about fighting, and I actually end up fighting during the recording. The relationship was shit, but it taught me some very valuable lessons about love and relationships.
"Who Hurt You" I wrote for a dear friend of mine who I love deeply. She is battling with traumas and addiction. It`s hard to see someone you love suffer, but what`s even harder, is to see that person try to heal herself with all the wrong things, alcohol for example. You can`t fix anyone who doesn`t want to be fixed, but when their self sabotage is starting to effect other peoples lifes too, It`s time to do something. I wrote this song to her as a friendly reminder, that I`ll be here for her no matter what, but I can`t save her from herself. She has told me that she absolutely hates the song actually, which we both laugh about. I understand her, I mean, would you like a song where someone tells you to "get your shit togethe?"
She is doing bit better nowadays, so if this song put her into the direction of healing even just a little bit, that means it was worth it.
Sunny a capella. What can I say or ask? It has reached perfection. Thank you so much for this and for both albums. I was introduced to you through an acquaintance (Gabriel) at a time when everything was falling apart for me. You were one of the reasons along with your music to give me strength and keep fighting. I just have to thank from the bottom of my heart.
